Since getting back from traveling all summer I realized how out of shape I was. I mean yeah, I was going for runs nearly every morning we were traveling but the would be about a mile long. Max. I also realized how crappy I was eating. So that’s why when I got back from Costa Rica at the beginning of August I decided to take running, fitness, and my eating habits more seriously. Here are a few things I started doing, specifically with running…
I used to be a huge runner. Like I lost 30 lbs in 4 months because I went from being a couch potato to suddenly getting up at the crack of dawn and doing a 5-6 mile 8 minute pace run and then do a 30 minute arm and ab workout. I was insane. I was also channeling all the anxiety and angst of a freshmen in high school into something that I considered productive. And it was, totally. At the time. But eventually a year later I got bored and tired of running so religiously and I was fed up with the fact that this was the only way I could keep that weight off. So I stopped running. And I gained all the weight back and I lost all of the muscle I worked so hard for in a matter of months.
Flash forward two years later and I’m now more determined than ever to beat my PRs and I’d like to maybe lose some weight along the way! I’m starting slow and I’ve been doing 4 mile runs 4-5 days a week along with 10 minute workouts and some ultimate frisbee mixed in! I’m super happy because running has always been my version of a cup of coffee in the morning. For some reason I get even more energetic -and it lasts throughout the day- when I go for a run in the morning!
I also started using this water bottle that a friend of mine got for me a while back and I even pulled out some of my favorite running clothes from Athleta! This water bottle is super nice because it’s glass but it has this silicone “padding” and it looks really cute and it carries A TON of water. I love Athleta and I have nothing bad to say about them. I always find great stuff in their sale section and their running shorts are the only running shorts I have found that fit in all the right places. Anytime I see one of their stores I always make sure to stop and check their sale section because we don’t have one of their stores down by us.
To track my runs and what also keeps me focused on my health is my Fitbit! I have the Fitbit Charge HR and I love it! It tracks me heart rate, my steps, my active minutes and much more. I’ve been using Fitbits for about 3 years now and I’ve loved every one I’ve had!
